Application Operations
Applications have become a critical business asset; they generate revenue, lower costs and keep customers happy. This application centricity has created a new focus on application operations – i.e. the operational capabilities to ensure application features become available to users as quickly as possible as well as ensuring an application’s users experience while it is deployed.
These goals define the two major components of AppOps - application release operations and application performance monitoring. Release operations covers application and feature deployment as well as the operational corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) needed to keep an application running at peak performance. Application monitoring covers alerting and tracking run time issues that affect performance and\or user experience.
These two aspects of AppOps are separate, but linked in a sense-response loop. Application performance monitoring senses runtime application issues, while release operations provides the operational blueprint of the deployment environment for cause analysis, and enables stopgap operational handling of those issues.
