Release and Deploy IIS and .NET Applications

Microsoft .NET is the platform of choice for many enterprise applications. .NET usually handles the front end Web and business logic of an application, coordinating activities among web servers, databases, legacy systems, and load balancers. Deploying .NET applications into the datacenter involves many steps across multiple tiers with multiple servers, such as:

Copying version files to the destination servers
Stopping and starting IIS services
Running SQL scripts to update database schemas and data
Moving, renaming, and backing up web folders
Updating IIS configurations
Adding and updating XML parameters
Removing and adding servers to the load balancer pool
Synchronizing updates between tiers and even data centers
Deleting cache files and folders

We took an example from one of our customer's who has an online healthcare application. Serving thousands of doctors, their application is running on a main frame, IIS Servers, and MSSQL. As you can see from the screen shot below, one of their application updates consists of removing the application servers from the load balancer pool, then updating the IIS servers of type PR, updating IIS servers of type TS, and only then going back to the PR servers to finalize the application update. This application deployment process was easily created with Nolio ASAP, and runs on a weekly basis, with many others, managing our customer's critical healthcare application.
